Volunteers in Non Profit Societies

Volunteers in Non Profit Societies

Today’s topic is volunteers. Most nonprofit societies would not survive if it wasn’t for a dedicated number of volunteers who share the passions and the desire to help and of course work. Langley Pos-Abilities Society is no different and this blog is a plea for people who would like to volunteer. We have a number of different positions which require different talents and commitments.

Board Members: we are looking for at least three new Board members to start right away. As we are a working board we need people who are willing to work as well as make the necessary decisions to move the society forward. The time commitment would be approximately 10 hours a month. We are looking for both able bodied and disabled volunteers.

We need several volunteers who have a van or a truck who could pick up donations of assistive devices or deliver an assistive device to a client. If we have several people the workload of course would be less.

Another event that we require volunteers is for the Blind Banquet which will be coming up in April. These are people who we will train to be guide/hosts at the table for the people who will eat their dinner blindfolded so that they can experience what it might be like to be blind. This would be ideal for couples, but of course do not have to be.

Of course there are many things that we can use volunteers for so if you are interested in any of the things I have mentioned, please email me under contact us and I will get back to you very quickly.

Finally there is one more thing we need as soon as possible. We need some storage place that is dry, has power and is preferably heated at least a little. The place we currently have is rapidly filling up and we just had to refuse a hospital bed because we did not have a suitable place to store it until it was needed.

Please keep your comments coming.
