Day of Pos-Abilities 2018 Entertainment

June 4, 2018 by Zosia

NOTE: If you would like to rent a space at our event to display your items or information, please visit this page.

Langley Pos-Abilities Society is pleased to announce that we will be hosting  another “Day of Pos-Abilities”, which is our premier annual showcase event designed to promote understanding, inclusion and enthusiasm about issues that are faced by people with disabilities, as well as showcasing some solutions and opportunities that exist to oppose those issues!

Our “Day of Pos-Abilities” will be held at Douglas Park in Langley, on Saturday August 11th, 2018, from 11:00 am until 5:00 pm. We are planning a fun filled and informative day which will include:

  • Artisan crafts and other handmade items for sale made by people of all abilities
  • Mouth-watering BBQ
  • A variety of entertainment showcasing the talents and abilities of people with disabilities
  • A marketplace area for our generous sponsors
  • Displays and personnel from other non-profit organizations
  • Our “Try on a Disability” exercise to experience various abilities and gain insight into others’ lives
  • Demonstrations of adaptive tools
  • and an area for fun and educational children’s activities

We have organized this exciting community awareness event for a few years now, and with a turnout of over 700 visitors each year, we are confident in calling it a success! The feedback we’ve received from previous vendors and representatives was very positive, and many have returned back each year.

We appreciate your contribution to our community and would like to personally invite you to perform at our event, to display the wonderful talents our community has to offer. If you are part of an organization, you may also wish to rent a booth to spread the word about your group. Below is a registration form for your organization to fill out for this year’s event, so that you can register as early as possible. If you prefer to register “offline” please download this fillable PDF form.

Our event information will be posted here on our website, so that we can provide up-to-date information on vendors, sponsors, entertainers and on site activities.

We look forward to your interest and participation this year! If you have any questions, please contact Zosia Ettenberg at 604 961-0117 or zosia@pos-abilities.org.

Testimonials

We had been trying to find resources to replace an electric wheelchair for one of our parish members. You achieved more in one week than we had in 5 months! We cannot thank you enough, not only for all your support, but also for your amazing, positive attitude. Thank you again for all you are accomplishing in our communities.

The demonstration where the woman was hearing voices was so enlightening for me because my cousin had schizophrenia and it gave me a deeper understanding of his struggles – it was heartbreaking.

Although I have done sensitivity training before for mental health issues, I really appreciated the opportunity to try on a disability. It definitely made me more mindful and aware of the challenges people with disabilities face and the little things I may be able to do to help.

Just wanted to say a huge THANK-YOU for the machine for [name withheld].  He set it up yesterday and has already spend hours on it.  He told me that it is the most amazing gift he has ever received and he is now able to read! [He] has always avoided reading anything for it was such a huge struggle but now he is going around the house collecting machines, books anything that he wants to see, and enhancing them on the screen.  Tonight he was able, for the first time, to help my 8 yr old with hi…

Thank you so very much for your generous gift from your pos-abilities organization.  This machine is a godsend to me.  I appreciate and am grateful to know Zosia.  She is a kind and caring person who will help anyone who needs help.

I wish you organization well with the fundraiser but I am on call that weekend so will not be able to come. You are making a difference in the community, I have had clients on service that have received equipment from you. I will forward you email to others. Thanks.

Zosia and her team came to our school with their “Try On A Disability” program and it was a big success. Zosia was wonderful to plan with and the organizers were patient, kind and supportive of our students as they went through the learning stations. Our students not only enjoyed the day with them but, more importantly, developed more empathy and a better understanding about life with a physical disability. We look forward to having Langley Pos-Abilities back at our school in the near future.

Regardless of any other help, seeing you use your reacher has changed my life. I bought myself a long one with suction cups, and I took down some things from high shelves that I either want but couldn’t really get, or have no use for. And I must have picked up at least 500 things from the floor with it by now, including scraps of paper and so much more. Suddenly I am not helpless, but powerful. Maybe that seems silly, but I really feel it.

After 9 years of struggling, calling fire dept, crying and begging A1 wheelchairs to please help fix my wheelchair to make it usable and safe as they were contacted to do, Zosia finally put me on to Rob of ‘the rehab shop’. Thank you so much Zosia! Rob fixed my chair and helped me arrange for a new one…He’s a great guy…so refreshingly helpful! Thanks again.
